On Sunday, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray during a press conference in Mumbai said that though he doesn’t want to impose a lockdown, “HELPLESSNESS IS ALSO SOMETHING…” The statement came amidst the rising covid-19 cases in the state of Maharashtra where over 8,000 daily Covid cases are being reported for the last few days.
“I do not want to impose lockdown in the state but ‘majboori’ (helplessness) is also something,” the Chief Minister said during a press conference in Mumbai on Sunday.
The CM didn’t warn the citizens about a lockdown for the first time. Earlier this month, Maharashtra crossed the 6,000-mark after a calm of three months. Thackeray had said that he would have to announce a lockdown if the coronavirus cases didn’t reduce in two weeks. The number of daily cases, however, crossed the 8,000-mark last week.
“We may have to bring a strict lockdown if we don’t follow discipline. Next 8 days will tell us if to bring lockdown back,” he said. In his address, CM Uddhav Thackeray said that COVID-19 raising its head in Maharashtra again. “We will know in 8 to 15 days if this is another wave,” he had stated on Feb 21.

During the conference, the CM also commented on the rising fuel prices in the country. Remarking on the fuel prices, Thackeray said: “Petrol and diesel prices have gone up. We have seen centuries by Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar but now we are seeing petrol-diesel century.”
