Maharashtra government has issued a notification falling under the Motor vehicles (Amendment) Act which has stipulated the revised compounding traffic fines.
Officials have said that most of the hiked fines are related to “road safety” along with the objective to bring down fatalities and also to ensure better road discipline.
Fine for not wearing a seatbelt or a helmet would be the same and would stay unchanged from Rs.500 and Rs.200.
The fine for speeding a car has been increased from Rs.1000 to Rs.2000. The compounding fees for speeding have been hiked to Rs.4000. For the second-time offenders, the price would be as big as Rs.10,000 if the offense is done within a span of 3 years or earlier in office, said the notification.
