On Wednesday, Maharashtra government had announced that there will be no exams conducted for class 9th and 11. They will be promoted to the next class without examination. This decision was made in the wake of recent spike in coronavirus cases in the western state.
However, the state government had announced that board exams of class 10th and 12th will be held offline and the date sheet for the exam will be released soon. Considering the spike in Covid-19 cases, local authorities had ordered to shut down educational institutions. The state has been drastically affected by the novel coronavirus infection. Since the second week of February, the cases in the state have been on a rise. To control the surge of the virus, curfews and lockdown has been announced by several districts.
“Considering the current situation in COVID-19 and in the interest of the students, the school education department has decided to give full promotion to the students of 9th and 11th standard in the schools affiliated to the state board,” State Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said.

“In view of the ongoing situation due to Covid-19, all state board students across Maharashtra state from Class 1 to Class 8 will be promoted to the next class without any examinations”, Gaikwad said
Earlier, the government had announced there will be no practical exams for Class 10 students.
“Conducting practicals in school has been tough this year and therefore we have decided that students need to be given a concession here. That is why, to start with, we have decided to do away with science practical exams for SSC, replacing them with internal assignments,” the School Education Minister had previously said.
