The Maharashtra government had earlier announced that schools will reopen for students of Class 9 to Class 12 from November 23. The state education department also made it mandatory for teachers to undergo an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 before the schools reopen, so as to minimise the risk of the virus.
A set of guidelines was also released by the state, as per which, parents would have to sign a written consent before students attend the schools.
Students were also allowed to continue studying from home, provided they submit a consent letter from their parents in this case as well.
However, it turned out that the majority of parents were doubtful of sending their wards to schools.
