Maharashtra: First Omicron case in Kalyan, Dombivli; no need to panic, says Health Minister Rajesh Tope

Maharashtra Health Department said that a 33 year old unvaccinated man has returned from South Africa to Kalyan-Dombivli near Mumbai and has tested positive for the new variant.

This is the fourth confirmed case of Omicron in India.

On Saturday, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the probable third wave of Covid in the state could be of the new variant if proper precautions are not taken.

He also added that the new variant is mild and does not cause severe disease that will require mass hospitalisation.
