On Tuesday, the state reported a rise of 26% in daily case detection to 39,207 and also reported a steep 120% jump in Covid deaths. Maharashtra registered 53 fatalities which is the highest in over 100 days since Oct 8.
State surveillance officer Dr, Pradeep Awate said that it is too premature to construe the rise in fatalities in Maharashtra as a worsening of the wave. “The rise of mainly due to late reporting of deaths from some districts,” he told The Times Of India.
In most districts, the third wave has just begun and the rise in the number of deaths is seen in a week or fortnight after the peak of cases. Mumbai is witnessing a decline in the third wave. The total caseload of Maharashtra has reached 72.8 lakhs with 1,41,885 deaths.
