A proposal has been cleared by the State Cabinet on Wednesday to give a 100% road tax exemption to all those vehicles that are used as school buses in Maharashtra.
This waver will be applicable for two years from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2022. Maharashtra Government has said that this exemption will be applicable only for those buses that are owned by schools or those buses that are taken on a lease by the schools and they exclusively operate only as school buses.
A senior transport official has said that the tax waiver is currently nearly Rs.8.5 crore for the school buses across the state. The official said that “Schools were shut during this time due to Covid and so it was felt that some tax relief should be extended to the affected transporters.”
