Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer, ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ directed by Raghava Lawrence, went through a naming ceremony due to various reasons. It went for its censor certificate and post the screening the makers had a discussion with CBFC. The sentiments of the viewers are respected by the film producers – Shabinaa Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Akshay Kumar, hence the title change. The horror-comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani is now titled as ‘Laxmii’.

‘Laxmii’ is a horror-comedy film in which Akshay Kumar features as a transgender along with Kiara Advani in a key role. Akshay’s character had created quite a buzz. A section of the internet, meanwhile, demanded a change in its title for multiple reasons.

The film went through a title change because some people alleged stereotypical representation of the transgender community. On the other hand, some audiences felt that the film’s title is derogatory as it insults Hindu Goddess Laxmi.

It is said that a legal notice was issued by the Karni Sena terming the ‘Bomb’ word in the title as ‘derogatory and offensive’ to Goddess Laxmi and that it send a wrong message to the society’s ideologies, customs and Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu religion. The notice also is said to claim that the term was deliberately used in order to lower the dignity and disrespect the Goddess.

‘Laxmii’ is a remake of the 2011 Tamil movie ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’, which was also directed by Raghava Lawrence and wanted to name the remake as ‘Kanchana’. But, in order to appeal the Hindi audience, Laxmii sounded perfect to him.

Akki is playing the character of ‘Asif’ who is trying to convince the parents of Kiara as well as ‘Laxmii’ who has come to take revenge from them.

The film is set to release on an OTT Platform – Disney+ Hotstar VIP, on November 9. Besides Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, ‘Laxmii’ also features Ashwini Kalsekar, Sharad Kelkar, Manu Rishi and Ayesha Raza.
