On Tuesday, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has said that the people returning from Kumbh Mela will turn out to be potential carriers of Covid-19 virus which will turn out to be a havoc. Sanjay Raut has commented this a day after thousands of devotees took a dip in the various ghats in the holy water of Ganga in Haridwar.
“It is painful for the Shiv Sena to put restrictions on our festivals and religious celebrations but the party dares to do so to save the lives of people. Our priority is to save as many lives as possible. I believe that people coming from the Kumbh mela will cause further spread of COVID-19 cases, which will cause havoc,” said Raut.
Congress leader and Mumbai guardian minister Aslam Shaikh has said that the state government will have to decide guidelines for the people who will return from the ongoing Kumbh Mela as Covid guidelines were not followed at the congregation.
In terms of the number of COVID-19 cases and fatalities, Maharashtra state is the worst affected.
As of Monday, as per the state health department, the caseload in Maharashtra stood at 34,58,996 while the overall death toll is 58,245.
