Karnataka has announced a 14 days Lockdown amidst the increasing Covid-19 cases in the state. The order was issued on Friday, 7th May by the BS Yediyurappa government that said the lockdown will begin from May 10, 6AM and will continue to be in place till May 24, 6AM. 

After the order, guidelines for the lockdown were issued on that very day but a little revised version of the same was released on 9th May, Sunday. The order stated that only Essential Commodities can be delivered to through E-COMMERCE and Home Delivery portals. Previously, the order said that delivery of all items through e-commerce and home delivery was permitted. 

The Guidelines:

  • Restriction will be imposed in the entire state from 6 am of May 10 to 6 am of May 24;
  • All shops and commercial establishments, hotels, pubs and bars will remain closed during this period.
  • 6 am to 10 am – Essential goods and services like food, medicine, milk, fruits and vegetables;
  • State and central government departments engaged in providing essential services will operate;
  • Banks, Public Sector Units and other government establishments can function with 50% staff;
  • Private banks and insurance offices will also function with 50% staff;
  • Buses or the metro rail would not operate, but flights and trains would run as per schedule;
  • Autorickshaws and taxis allowed to only during emergencies;
  • Schools, colleges, educational institutes and coaching centres will remain shut,as also cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasium, stadia, auditoria, swimming pools, parks, entertainment parks, clubs, theatres and community halls;
  • Total ban on all kinds of social, political, sports, entertainment, educational and religious gatherings;
  • A ban on the entry of people in religious places;
  • Hotels and restaurants would be allowed only to give take way parcels;
  • Only Essential Commodities can be delivered to through E-COMMERCE and Home Delivery portals;
  • No restrictions on the movement of people dealing with health emergencies;
  • No curbs would be there on the movement of essential goods and medical equipment.

The state has been highly affected by the second wave of Coronavirus. In Bangalore, the positivity rate is 40%. The city reported 21,376 cases and 346 deaths in the last 24 hours (as of 9th May)

Oxygen demand has been on a rising graph in Bengaluru. 

The two-week lockdown will end on 24th May.
