In a recent hearing, the Supreme Court has upheld its validity of the condition which says that the students who have joined IIT cannot appear for the exam. JEE Advanced 2021 exam was held on 3rd October, yesterday.
This verdict was given by the Bench which comprised Justices Uday Umesh Lalit, S. Ravindra Bhat, and Bela M. Trivedi. The Bench heard the matter and set aside the judgment of the Calcutta HC that removed the condition after calling it ‘arbitrary’ and ‘discriminatory’ in nature.
In the Calcutta High Court, a petition was filed after the application of a student was rejected for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam. The reason for the application rejection was that the student had already secured admission in IIT Kharagpur in the year 2020.
There is no bar on a student from non-IIT to give the exam but there was a bar on the student from IIT to give the exam, said the Calcutta High Court. Such a kind of condition was discriminatory as the students were not getting an equal and fair chance.
