QUIT TODAY!

WELL, NOT YOUR JOB, BUT TOBACCO!

IT’S “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY”- 31st May

World No Tobacco Day’ is specifically observed to spread the awareness about the ill and harmful effects of tobacco. Statistics say that there are approximately 120 million smokers in India. The World Heath Organisation says that India is home to 12% of the world’s smokers.

TOBACCO TAKES AWAY MORE THAN 10 MILLION PEOPLE EACH YEAR IN INDIA.

People consume tobacco because they find it as stress relief, pleasure or in social situations. Some of them consume it just because they think it’s “COOL”. Well, definitely it’s not. If you think that consuming tobacco makes you look cool then you need to rethink again.

Consumption of tobacco can cause damage to the heart, blood vessels and blood cells. The chemicals and tar in cigarettes can increase your risk of atherosclerosis, which is a build-up of plaque in blood vessels. This build-up of plaque can lead to dangerous blockages. In the case of women, smoking cigarettes damages the female’s reproductive system and makes it more difficult to get pregnant. Smoking also weakens a person’s immune system making them more susceptible to illness.

At times people smoke just because to get along with friends or to show that they look cool while smoking which urges the teen around them without understanding the ill effects it has over your body.

Quitting is definitely hard; be it tobacco or your toxic relationship! But it’s never impossible, right? Just as we say in Hindi that “Tajmahal ek din me nahi banta”, that’s exactly the same case for quitting tobacco; it takes place slowly but eventually when you are honest to yourself and you don’t want to risk lives of people around you, there will be a day when you would not even want to talk about it.

It is always better to quit tobacco than digging your own grave!
