Key Points:

  • “India is quite likely to meet 70% of the total target of immunisation drive by December,” says Raghuvanshi.
  • Dr. Raghuvanshi also expects the non-Covid business recovery to be smoother and faster going ahead.
  • “Quite likely that there will be a third wave of Covid-19,” Dr. Raghuvanshi.

The second Covid-19 wave has almost ended as per experts and India has started prepping itself for the third. The third wave is said to be supposedly more traumatic and its the children that are said to be affected by it.

Recently, Times Now reported the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Fortis Healthcare Limited, Ashutosh Raghuvanshi talk about the second wave in relation to the business.

Ashutosh said that the second covid wave was different in many ways. He also said that even when the covid infections are rapidly reducing, the second wave has immensely impacted the Non-Covid treatment section ofnthe hospitals.

The efficiency of the healthcare sector in the country is improving said Ashutosh and he said that Fortis is focusing on optimising processes to reduce costs and will also expand organically very soon.

Raghuvanshi said, “During first wave occupancy levels were at 25- 29% and during the second wave, we saw levels go up to 69%-70%.”

He also expects the non-Covid business recovery to be smoother and faster going ahead.

“By next month, expect Covid-19 related revenue to fall down to 10-15% from the peak of 45% and non-Covid recovery is likely to be faster; already seeing Initial signs of pent up demand,” he adds.

Dr. Raghuvanshi, as reported by Times Now, said that Fortis is installing their private Oxygen plants in all the hospitals and these plants will be installed and running in a few months.

India has world’s largest vaccination drive running and when in talks about that, Dr. Raghuvanshi said that he has mixed feelings about the Vaccination drive plus inconsistencies spread in the government policies that may have, according to him, impacted the pace and reach of the vaccination drive against Covid-19.

Though the Vaccination drive has started off since quite a long time and even the public and private hospitals are going beyond capabilities to run the immunisation programme, Dr. Raghuvanshi said that the pace of the vaccination drive will not pick up in short term.

“India is quite likely to meet 70% of the total target of immunisation drive by December,” says Raghuvanshi.

Talking of the predicted third wave,  Dr. Raghuvanshi agrees to it and said that there are high chances of India suffering from the third wave of Covid-19 infection.
