On Sunday, India broke all its previous records when 1.5 lakh Covid-19 cases were recorded in 24 hours, highest since the pandemic began.1,03,794 fresh Covid cases were reported which stands at the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic.

Maharashtra remains the most affected state. According to the health department data, it broke all previous records with 57,074 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, pushing the tally to 30,10,597.

The Health Bulletin has said that the Covid surge in Delhi continues as 4,033 cases were reported in the last 24 hours which took the total tally to 6,76,414.

On Sunday, the health bulletin was released which said that the number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours was 21 taking the toll 11,081. Total recoveries stand at 6,,51,351 with 2,2677 recoveries during the same period.

Amid the alarming situation created by the spike in Covid-19 cases, the decision to impose a lockdown or not will be taken soon. A meeting was held with the Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray in which the members of the state task force were said to have mixed feelings regarding complete Lockdown, and how far it would prove to be effective to curb the spread of the virus.

In the next two days, Thackeray will have a meeting with the Financial Minister before taking any decision about the lockdown. The CM had a discussion whether a lockdown should be imposed or not. However, he has asked officials to prepare ‘an all inclusive SOP’ for the lockdown to be initiated in the state. The task force including health experts, private doctors and former government officials have told Thackeray that a lockdown has to be imposed in the state.
