Key Points:

India is struggling with the increasing Covid-19 cases in the country plus now a threat of the new Delta Plus Variant threat. The country has been one of the top worst hit countries due to the coronavirus but on the other hand, the biggest Vaccination Drive is taking place in India and the recovery rate is higher than usual.
Contradictort to this, India recorded 50,040 more individuals who tested positive for Covid-19. This was a count in just the span of 24 hours. After adding up a 50K, the total caseload in the country has reached to 3,02,33,183 as per the Union Health Ministry data. The COVID-19 active caseload is 5,86,403 which now comprises 1.97% of the total infections.
The fresh cases recorded in relation to the infection are slightly higher than they were recorded a day before when the count stopped at 48,698.
India also recorded 1,258 new fatalities in the span of 24 hours leading the death count in the country due to the virus to 3,95,751, as of Sunday. Talking of fatalities, Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of death on Sunday with 511 individuals passing away due to the virus followed by Tamil Nadu with 148 deaths due to Covid.
Good News is, currently, India’s recovery rate is 96.72%. The total number of recovered patients has increased to 2,92,51,029.
On Sunday, in accordance to the vaccination programme, the Centre told the Supreme Court of India that it is expecting to get almost 188 crore vaccine doses – from at least 5 manufacturers – to vaccinate the entire 18+ population by the end of 2021.
As per Government data, only about 5.6 % of India’s adult population has received two doses.
Of the 50K cases recorded on Sunday, 5 states had the most contributions to the huge number. 72% cases were recorded from the states below and amongst them, Kerala ranked number one by contributing 24.22% of the overall 100% cases recorded in 24 hours.

- Maharashtra – 9,812 cases
- Tamil Nadu – 5,415 cases
- Karnataka – 4,272 cases
- Andhra Pradesh – 4,147 cases
