If you are planning to take an auto or a taxi during midnight or midnight hours in Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai, you will be charged with a minimum fare of Rs.27 for three wheeler and minimum fare of Rs. 32 for the ‘kaali peeli’ taxi’s. These details were revealed in the new tariff cards released by transport minister on Saturday afternoon.

The drivers and owners will have to compulsorily recalibrate the electronic meters beginning from March 1 to May 31 as the tariff cards for auto’s, taxi and cool cave will be valid on for that period of time.

Transport chief Avinash Dhakne has said that from June 1, the fares will be collected from electronic meters only. From March 1, the minimum auto fare for an auto will rise from Rs.18 to Rs.21

From the same day, minimum fare for kaali peeli taxi rises from Rs.22 to Rs.25. Across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the fare for cool cabs will rise from Rs.28 to Rs.33.

“The tariff card will help auto and taxi drivers collect revised fares from day 1. The card will show the distance and the existing fares corresponding to new fares. So, it will be easy to check the meter which is not recaliberated and the equivalent fare in the tariff card,” said Dhakne.

A total of 4.6 lakh autos and 60,000 taxis will be going through the meter recaliberation and each meter upgradation could cost the driver/owner Rs.700.

Amid the COVID 19 risk and need for social distancing, RTO officials are gearing to manage the rush for meter recaliberation and also field track tests from Monday.

A senior transport official has said that, “the government will ensure that auto and taxi driver/owners are not put to risk by limiting the number of people at every meter repairer shop and RTO premises.”
