On Saturday, 26th of September, 2020, at around 6:30 in the evening, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually delivered a speech addressing the 75th Annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Highlights from PM Modi’s Speech:

  • “India is proud of the fact that it is one of the Founding Members of the United Nations. On this historic occasion, I have come to this global platform to share the sentiments of 1.3 billion people of India,” said PM Narendra Modi.
  • “Efforts for promoting Women Entrepreneurship are being taken on a large scale as Indian women are the biggest beneficiaries of world’s largest Micro Finance Scheme. A paid maternity leave for 26 weeks is being provided by India.”
  • “‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) is the country’s post-pandemic vision which will also be a force multiplier for the global economy.”
  • PM Modi assured the global population as the largest vaccine producing country in the world that India’s vaccine production and delivery competence will be used to help all humanity in combating this crisis.

 

  • India will not hesitate in raising its voice against enemies of humanity, including terrorism”

  • When “A country that has once led the World’s economy for years and has also experienced being ruled by; who’s every transformation affects the world, HOW LONG DOES THIS COUNTRY HAVE TO WAIT TO BE A PART OF THE UN DECISION-MAKING?”

  • The world, in 75 years of the establishment of UN has seen huge achievements but there are points where serious introspection of the work of United Nations is needed said PM Modi.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic this year, the UN General Assembly is largely being held online. Delivering pre-recorded speeches at the summit that is being heard at New York has been going on since the start of the assembly and majority of World Leaders have been doing so.
