A circular has been issued by the Karnataka Government which says that the proposal of HC saying no religious garments in educational institutions is applicable to minority institutions running under the state government.

In a notification, Secretary for Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf Department Major P Manivannan said that the interim order of the full bench of Karnataka HC also applies to the residential schools coming under the Minority Welfare Department and Moulana Azad Model Schools (English medium).

According to the Government Order, the students can come to the campus wearing hijab, but cannot attend classes.

The order read, “We request the state government and all their stakeholders to reopen the educational institutions and allow the students to return to classes at the earliest. Pending consideration of all these petitioners, we restrain all the students regardless of their religion or faith from wearing saffron shawls (Bhagwa), scarfs, hijab, religious flags or the like within the classroom until further notice.”
