Beginning from June 9, Mumbaikars will have to wear a helmet even if they are riding a pillion on a two-wheeler. If violated and found without helmets, they will be penalized.
On Wednesday, a notification was issued by the Mumbai Traffic Police in which it was stated that it is being made mandatory for pillion riders to wear helmets and a fortnight is being given to people to start following this rule.
The ones who fail to follow this rule will be fined with Rs.500 along with a suspension of their driving license for a period of three months. Officials have said that it has always been mandatory for pillion riders to wear a helmet under the Motor Vehicles Act and now it will be strictly enforced.
