“Acting on the input, we checked one of the 17 containers sent from Afghanistan and found 13 bags containing 20kg heroin in each bag so far. We are yet to check the other 16 containers which we suspect that some of them must be having the narcotics substance,” said an ATS officer.
The officer said that the consignment marked as gypsum powder was brought from Bandar Abbas port in Iran and was imported by a firm named Balaji traders.
It needs to be mentioned that the 1,600-km coastline of Gujarat seems to have turned into a boon for international and inter-state drug mafias who are using it to sneak narcotics into the country.
In September 2021, the largest seizure of narcotics substance in the country was reported at Mundra port of Kutch where a consignment of 3,000 kg of heroin was seized by the DRI. Later, the investigation was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
