Today is the day when all the Indians above the age of 18 will start receiving free vaccine jabs from the Government of India. A very committed program from the government has been launched and from today, June 21, Monday, all the adults will be vaccinated for free in order to curb the virus plus to help help increasing the daily vaccination numbers.
It was on June 7 that the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narendra Modi announced the ambitious free vaccination drive. The same was being continued partly by stated since May 1.
The Centre’s new policy came days after the Supreme Court slammed the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group and called it “arbitrary and irrational.”
Key Details of the Free Covid Vaccination:
- Free Vaccination can be availed by all citizens above the age of at any government facility,
- 75% of the total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers will be procured by the Centre,
- The same will be handed over to the state governments free of cost,
- No state government will have to spend anything on the vaccine,
- Onsite registration facilities are a must for all government and private vaccination centres,
- Registration on Co-Win app is not mandatory but information of individuals will be stored,
- Common Service Centres and Call Centres can be approached by the states to help citizens book slots,
- Private hospitals can only charge Rs 150 as a service charge on COVID-19 vaccines,
- Maximum prices capped at private hospitals for – Covishield (Rs 780), Covaxin (Rs 1,410) and Sputnik V (Rs 1,145).
India’s vaccination drive began on 16th of January, 2021 and so far, as per the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 27.66 crore COVID-19 vaccination doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive as on June 20, 2021.
