For the first time ever, Mumbai sees over 9000 Covid-19 cases. 681 buildings sealed.

On Saturday, Mumbai has reported over 9,000 positive novel coronavirus cases. Since the pandemic outbreak in the country, this has been a single day spike in Mumbai. Second highest number of positive cases in Mumbai was reported Friday with 8,832 new virus infections in a day.

This Covid spike in Mumbai has taken the total tally of infection in the city to 4,41,282, said the Civic body. It also added that city’s doubling rate of cases has worsened to 44 days from an earlier 46 days yesterday.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 27 deaths were reported on Saturday, which is the highest since the beginning of December 2020.

Number of active cases in Mumbai is 62,187. Total number of people recovered from the virus since the start of the pandemic is 3,66,365 with 5,322 recovering on Saturday.

Amid the rise in COVID positive cases, BMC has sealed 681 buildings until now. In the city, there are 70 active containment zones so far.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that Maharashtra is recording over half of daily Covid cases in India for which the state government is considering to divert industrial use oxygen supply for medical use.

Pune, Mumbai city, Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, Bengaluru Urban, Aurangabad, Delhi, Ahmednagar and Nanded are the 10 districts who account for 50 per cent of the total active caseload of the country.
