Emmy Awards 2020 – DELHI CRIME wins Best Drama Series

Indian Web Series by NetflixDELHI CRIME, has bagged the title of the Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmys. The winner was announced on November 23rd, with a virtual attendance of the Nominees. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awards were held virtually for the first time in the history of International Emmys. TV, film and stage actor Richard Kind hosted the ceremony live from an empty theatre in New York City, with no live audience and red carpet.

Delhi Crime is a fictionalized recapping of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case. Actor Shefali Shah played the role of the Deputy Commissioner of Police who was included in finding the criminals of the case and dealing with the repercussions of the brutal crime.

“I dedicate this award to all the women who not just undergo the violence that so many men inflict on them, but are then tasked to solve the problem. Finally, to the tireless mother, and her daughter. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about you both and what the world subjected you two to. And I hope none of us ever forget that,”
said Director Richie Mehta, dedicating the award to ‘all the women’ during the virtual ceremony.

The nominees for the Best Drama Series were German show ‘Charité 2- Season 2’, ‘Criminal UK’ and Argentina’s ‘The Bronze Garden – Season 2’ against ‘Delhi Crime’ India. The show, which runs on Netflix, won an award and created history for India.

India has won only a handful of awards at Emmys that include
2002Star News – International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Award
2011 – Subhash Chandra – Directorate Award
2020Delhi Crime – Best Drama Series

India had also bagged nominations in the Best Actor category (Arjun Mathur, Made in Heaven) and Best Comedy series (Four More Shots Please).

Netflix India congratulated the team for its historic win at the Emmys in a tweet.
