  • State BJP president says that demonstrations will be held by BJP until Goswami gets released.

After the Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami got arrested, he received strong support from the BJP unit. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also tweeted saying that, “Although emergency was defeated in 1977, the mentality is still alive! Today, the supporters of emergency-Congress and Shiv Sena are displaying the same undemocratic brutality to crush any voice of dissent.”

A case closed in 2018 had been reopened because of Arnab Goswami raising questions about the Palghar priests’ murder and the actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, says the state BJP president Chandrakant Patil. He also said that demonstrations will be held by BJP till Goswami gets released. Rushing towards Alibaug, BJP ex-MP Kirit Somaya and it’s Colaba MLA Rahul Narvekar showed their support to Arnab Goswami.

“The Naik family must get justice, but it cannot become a weapon for seeking revenge…if the government wants to open cases then it must also open the suicide case of the Thane builder Parmar. The names mentioned in that suicide note will set the government on the run,” saya the Bandra MLA Ashish Shelar.

On the reaction of Arnab Goswami getting arrested, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis says that Maharashtra is witnessing emergency. He also termed Goswami’s arrest as “politics of vendetta”.

“While uncomfortable questions are raised, the government, instead of taking corrective measures, has used oppressive tactics by silencing the media,” says Fadnavis.

In Mumbai, former minister and BJP MLA Ashish Shelar told mediapersons that, “It is to convey a strong message to one and all not to ever question Gandhi and Thackeray families. If anybody dares to raise a question or point out faults, they will be put in prison.”

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Umesh Patil said on Wednesday that the former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should be made a ‘co-accused’ in the abetment to suicide case against the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.

The Mumbai Police took the Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami into custody on Wednesday for allegedly abetting the suicide of an interior designer in Alibaug in 2018. A court in Maharashtra has sent Goswami to 14 days of judicial custody.
