The Election Commission has put forth in writing to the government proposing compulsory disclosure of all donations more than Rs.2000 in place of the present threshold of Rs.20,000.
At present, there is an anomaly between the Income Tax as well as the Representation of the People Act, 1951. It is about the upper limit on cash donations from anonymous donators.
The Election Commission has also proposed legal backing for the instructions in which the candidates have to maintain a different bank account for the expenses on elections, by amending the Rule 89 of Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.
