For the first time in Mumbai city, four cases of two new subvariants of Omicron – BS.4 and BA.5 were seen on Monday. Three patients with the subvariants have recovered after staying in home isolation, said the civic officials.
There are 13 confirmed of these subvariants in the state that is seeing a rise worldwide but has not seen any connection with hospitalization as well as severe disease.
The Centres’ data shows that the Mumbai suburban has recorded a weekly positivity rate of 15.6% in the last week. Maharashtra has been directed by the Centre to strengthen genomic sequencing whereas it has asked Pune and Mumbai to ramp up sewage sampling.
