On Wednesday, in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh witnessed a horrifying sight. NDTV reported that alongside the Ganga river, dead bodies of patients who allegedly died of Covid-19 were buried in sand. The incident came a day after bodies of confirmed coronavirus-dead individuals were spotted floating in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and the Eastern side of Uttar Pradesh.

The bodies were or were not of COVID patients is yet to be discovered as authorities aren’t sure of the fact yet. News Agency ANI reported the Unnao District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar who added that some bodies were found far away from the river. He was even asked if the bodies were of COVID patients but there came no certain answer.

Buksar was the spot where these sand covered bodies were found and it is a major cremation spot for three districts of Fatehpur, Rai Bareily and Unnao, India Today reported. Kumar said that while some people burn the bodies, others bury them in the sand by the river.

“Some people do not burn the bodies but bury them in the sand by the river. After I got information, I sent officials to the spot. I have asked them to carry out an enquiry and we will take action,” district magistrate Ravindra Kumar told the media in a statement.

After getting information of the bodies, the officials reached the spot and dug pits on the same spots and buried the dead bodies in.

Local have mentioned that the shortage of Wood for funeral pyres may be one of the reasons of the why the corpses are being dumped in places like these.

Kumar said, “Search is being conducted for more bodies in the vicinity. I have asked the team to carry out inquiry. Actions will be taken accordingly.”
