Chinese President Xi Jinping writes to PM Modi; Offers help to fight COVID-19

On Friday, the Chinese President Xi Jinping in a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offered help to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic situation in India. It was the Chinese state media – Xinhua, that reported so.

Xinhua agency mentioned that President Xi Jinping “extended condolences” to PM Narendra Modi over the deadly situation due to the Coronavirus disease in the country. 

“President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Covid-19 pandemic in the country,” Xinhua reported.

As per the reports, the Chinese President also said, “China is willing to strengthen anti-pandemic cooperation with India plus provide support and help.”

“The coronavirus is the common enemy of mankind, and the international community needs solidarity and coordination for a concerted response. The Chinese side firmly supports the Indian Government and people in fighting the pandemic,” Xi Jinping’s letter mentioned, a copy of which was tweeted by Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong.

The help from China in the form of anti pandemic materials are crossing Chinese borders to enter India speedily so as to help India fight the epidemic.

“The Chinese side will continue to do its utmost to provide support and help according to the needs of India. We hope and believe that under the leadership of the Indian Government, the Indian people will surely prevail over the epidemic at an early date,” he added.

China and India have had a standoff in Eastern Ladakh since long due to the border issue and violent clashes between the two sides have also been seen. 

“President Xi says, “I am very concerned about the recent situation of Covid-19 pandemic in India. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, as well as in my name, I would like to express sincere sympathies to the Indian government and people,” Chinese ambassador to India Sun Weidong said in a tweet. Adding in, Weidong said, “Humanity is a community with a shared future. Only through solidarity and cooperation can countries around the world ultimately defeat the pandemic.”

India is currently fighting the Covid-19 virus and the message from President Xi Jinping has hit the desk of the Prime Minister at a time when almost 3.5 lakh cases per day including 300 plus deaths are being recorded in the country.
