With a blackboard strapped to his bike, Rudra Rana, a government school teacher in Chhattisgarh’s Korea district to teach children by holding ”mohalla’‘ classes in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rana spoke to ANI saying,
“Very few students were able to join the online classes, so I thought of this method of starting with a concept of mohalla classes. This also guarantees the safety of both teachers and students as there is no contact. As students can’t go to schools, I’m bringing education to their doorstep,”
With a blackboard, a few books, and placards in the bag on his trip, Rana rings the bell and then the students gather around. “The atmosphere is like a normal school with prayers at the beginning of the class and then the syllabus begins,” Rana added. “The umbrella on my bike represents a new way of educating students. It also protects me from heat and rain,” he added.
Rana travels from one region to another, congregates students, and schools them about coronavirus and their subjects. Students are seen coming forward and showing interest while the locals are appreciating the inventiveness.
Speaking about the importance of these classes during the pandemic, Shilp, a student said to ANI
“We get to learn a lot from these classes. Sir comes here daily and teaches us and also answers our doubts. We are enjoying this method of teaching.”
To educate the students stuck at home due to the Lockdown because of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Chhattisgarh government had earlier launched an online portal, ‘Padhai Tuhar Duar’ meaning – Education at your Doorstep.
