On Wednesday, March 23, The Ministry of Home Affairs said that the Disaster Management Act will not be invoked for the Corona safety measures. But, people will still have to wear masks in public spaces and will have to follow all Covid appropriate behavior. Currently, the country is vaccinating everyone above the age of 12.

Union Home Secretary, Ajay Bhalla said “After considering the overall improvement in the situation and preparedness of the government to deal with the pandemic, NDMA has decided that there may not be any further need to invoke the provisions of the DM Act for Covid containment measures.”

This decision by the Centre has come at such a time when there is a rise of cases of a sub variant of Omicron – BA.2 in places like Germany, China, France, Vietnam and South Korea.
