On Wednesday, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat was at a Book Launch event in Guwahati. The book named ‘Citizenship Debate Over NRC and CAA, Assam and Politics of History’ by Gauhati University professor Nanigopal Mahanta was a point of speech for the RSS Chief.
Bhagwat said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not harm Indian Muslims and it was nothing but a political agenda by some that gave it a communal angle.
Bhagwat said the CAA-NRC was “not against any citizen of India. It’s become a Hindu-Muslim issue when it’s not even one.”
Bhagwat said that NRC is nothing but a way of making efforts to find genuine citizens residing in India.
“Such exercises are followed in many countries across the world. What to do with them (those who are left out) is another matter, but at least let us first find out who the citizens in the country are,” he said.
