As the contract of the BMC with the cleanup marshals has come to an end, the BMC has put a stop to penalize the ones who are found without a mask. As per the BMC, this contract came to an end two weeks ago. Now, the BMC is considering hiring the marshals once again. A decision regarding the same will be taken soon, said an official from the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department.
A senior official from the SWM department said “Contracts of clean-up marshals have expired. The discussion is going on and a decision will be taken accordingly,” quoted The Indian Express. “Although people should wear masks…since there has been a sharp dip in daily Covid-19 cases, the penalty could be discontinued. Soon, there will be a decision on that,” the source added.
