Elections are an important part of democracy and talking about this new normal situation, the Bihar elections are going to be held in the next month and are considered as the biggest voting exercise in the world to be held in the time of coronavirus. 

Chief Election Commission Sunil Arora said this was part of the “new normal” in the global pandemic. 

Whereas, the Election Commission also announced a series of steps to avoid mass gathering and spread of COVID 19 and also to protect the people assembled at the booths against infection during voting and campaigning. 

The important changes and steps announced by the Commission include the following : 

  1. Polling hours have been increased by one hour. Voting from 7 am to 6 pm instead of the usual 5 pm.
  2. Those in quarantine can cast their votes at the end of voting time 
  3. COVID infected persons and virus suspects will vote separately. 
  4. All physical contact has been prohibited during the campaign. 

On the other hand,

The Election Commission of India on Friday announced the schedule for Bihar Assembly polls 2020. Voting for Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases — first on October 28, second on November 3 and the third on November 7 — while counting of all votes will take place on November 10, the Election Commission announced on Friday.

Here’s how Bihar Polls will be a bit different this time : 

  1. Voting Time Increased . 
  2. More Polling stations introduced. 
  3. Hand Gloves for all electors. 
  4. Only 5 people allowed for door to door campaigning. 
  5. Candidates can submit nomination online. 
  6. Quarantined patients can vote too.
