On Tuesday, the Bihar Cabinet has approved the proposed changes to the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016. According to the proposed amendments, the movable and immovable assets of the arrested liquor traders will be confiscated. On the other hand, first-time drinkers will be fined and will be imprisoned. The first-time offenders will face simple imprisonment for a year if they fail to pay a fine.
Not just this but the proposed changes to the law also provides the excise department as well as the police to consider relaxation if the drinkers are successfully identifying the source of purchasing liquor.
The proposed changes are stressing more on liquor traders and smugglers wherein their properties can be confiscated during the trial stage. As per the proposed amendments, the vehicles used for trading liquor will also be confiscated and can later be auctioned. However, small vehicles will not be confiscated.
