  • NCP spokesperson, Ankush Kakade urges Deputy CM of Maharashtra to ban the sale of firecrackers in a letter to him.
  • “In the larger interest of the people, we could keep the fun aside just for this year,” Kakade said.
  • Doctors have also supported the initiative in order to curb the pandemic as well as its extended symptoms and respiratory tract diseases.

The Diwali season is here and firecrackers have already reached at homes of people. In the ongoing pandemic, the major symptom of the virus is difficulty in breathing or shortness of breathing. Connecting the two dots together, the firecrackers will create a large amount of air pollution worsening the already polluted atmosphere leading to a rise in breathing problems.

In accordance to this, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson and party’s state unit general secretary, Ankush Kakade has written to the Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, requesting him to impose a ban on firecrackers during Diwali, to avoid the extreme air pollution.

In the letter to the Deputy CM of Maharashtra, Kakade included that a number of citizens are already suffering from the Covid-19 infection which is said to be spread through air as well and the bursting of the crackers will lead to affecting their immunity at large.

“Corona creates breathing issues and inhalation of toxic cracker fumes will further increase the problems of Covid-19 patients and other citizens. There are a number of scientific reports which have exposed the dangers of bursting fire crackers and the life-threatening smoke and fumes. This might lead to an escalation in the number of Covid-19 patients. In view of the dangers to the lives of citizens, bursting of Diwali crackers must be banned,”
Kakade stated in the letter.

“In the larger interest of the people, we could keep the fun aside just for this year,” Kakade added showing faith in the Deputy CM who can do something about the situation.

“Many social organizations have risen to the occasion and supported our initiative,” he said. It’s not just the social organizations that are in support of the cause but, even the Doctors, who have seen how smoke and pollution affect the health of Covid patients as well as normal people, have asked to completely avoid the usage of crackers.

Dr. Ajay Valke, MD Homeopath shares his views on the banning of firecrackers with INN as,

“You can’t BAN anything within 10 days of the festival which is known for firecrackers, but the usage can be reduced which will eventually decrease the amount of pollution. The smoke that the crackers create is similar to Passive Smoking, which is more hazardous than active smoking, and, you cannot stop Breathing! So you have to inhale all that in which will lead to respiratory tract infections and also aggravating people’s Asthma and other breathing problems. Substitutes for firecrackers like the Sky Lanterns or even Virtual Crackers can be used in order to not lose the festivity of the festival.”

Adding in, Dr. Valke also says that the defenSe mechanisms of the body like Coughing, Sneezing along with Teary eyes increases during the festival as well as the surrounding temperature is cold due to the winter season, which makes it even worse.
