Amid the ongoing debate regarding the use of loudspeakers at religious places, the Government of Maharashtra has taken a strong stand and has announced that loudspeakers can only be used with prior and proper permission.
On Monday, State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that the state is likely to formulate guidelines to allow using loudspeakers at religious places in a few days. He also said that strict action will be taken against any person/organization who tries to create communal tension.
In Nashik, the commissioner has already ordered all the religious institutions to use loudspeakers after taking prior permission.
May 3 is the last date to seek permission after which the loudspeakers will be confiscated from all the religious bodies that don’t have permission. A formal inquiry will be conducted on the ones who play loudspeakers beyond the decibel level that is allowed.
