While writing to Thackeray last week raising the issue of reopening of places of worship in Maharashtra, Kohiyari said in his letter,
“I wonder if you are receiving any divine premonition (godly intuition) to keep postponing the reopening of the places of worship time and again or have you suddenly turned ‘secular’ yourselves, the term you hated?”
Responding to Koshiyari, Thackeray said, he did not need a certificate of Hindutva from anyone. “Do you mean that opening up religious places is Hindutva, and not opening those means being secular? Secularism is a crucial base of the oath you took as Governor. Do you not believe it?”, added the Maharashtra CM.
The matter worsened when Koshiyari compared the reopening of bars and restaurants to that of the Temples saying that the Gods and Goddesses have been condemned to stay under lockdown. Thackeray subtly replied saying that the State Government will consider his request.
Meanwhile,
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said,
“The governor’s letter followed by the chief minister’s reply was an unavoidable disagreement and we haven’t started it,” he said.
“But, we are satisfied with the Union Home Minister’s stand and thank him for understanding the reason of our anger.”
