Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Iqbal Chahal said that the coming 10-12 days are very crucial for Mumbai amid the rise in COVID positive cases.

Chahal said that,”By the end of the 10th day, we will know about this current trend. We will know whether this is a second wave or a temporary spike.”

Amid the relaxations, people visited various places and flouted Covid rules, considering this the BMC Chief said that civic body will be “ruthless” and not spare anyone found flouting Covid-19 norms.

“Violations are being dealt with. Policemen are marshals and can impose fines,” Chahal said.

“We will keep a close eye wherever the rules aren’t being followed. As the CM said, it will depend upon the people whether there will a lockdown in the city or not. The Mumbai Police too has been authorised to issue challans, so be it public places or marriage halls BMC Will be strict,”he added.

“We will lodge FIRs against violators in marriage parties, including the bridegroom and bride’s parents,” Chahal said.

The Chief also said that more than 50 people in a marriage will not be allowed and he also appealed to the public to cooperate.

According to the latest guidelines given by the officials,no private hospital will admit any asymptomatic patient.Symptomatic patients will have to be admitted in coordination with the BMC and the Covid war room. “This was the case at the height of the pandemic but this rule has been brought back with rising cases and private hospitals have been told to follow this rule strictly,” said Dr Gautam Bhansali.

BMC Chief also said that private testing labs will not give reports to patients. “There were cases when reports were directly being given to politicians. But that will stop. No direct test report to the patient from now. The result report will be first given to BMC as per ICMR guidelines and then to the patient,” the official said.

For the past few days, Maharashtra has been seeing spike in the number of COVID cases to which CM Uddhav Thackeray gave a stern warning on Sunday saying that the state will go under a lockdown again if people fail to adhere to the norms.
