A Bloomberg report said that India’s Richest family – The Ambanis, are now twice as richer as the second richest family in ASIA. The Ambani family is now the richest family in Asia with a wealth of $76 billion. The news comes through a Bloomberg Billionaire Index which lists Asia’s 20 Richest Families.
The Ambanis alone own around 17% of the total $463 Billion Wealth that the top 20 families in Asia own. The second richest family is the Kwok family in Hong Kong in the region and the thrice rich as South Korea’s Lee Family (the owners of Samsung), whose total wealth is fixed at $26.6 billion by the Bloomberg Index.
How did Ambani become so rich?
- Ambani’s wealth jumped high during the pandemic.
- The Oil-to-Telecom-Retail Conglomerate and its Chairman were fundraising during the global pandemic crisis.
- Ambani raised $20.2 billion from leading private equity players such as KKR, TPG and strategic investors like Facebook and Google by selling a stake in its digital venture Reliance Jio Platforms.
- India’s largest conglomerate ‘RELIANCE’ also began another fundraising spree for its retail business, Reliance Retail.
- The company has almost raised Rs. 47 crores by selling a 10.09% stake in its Retail arm. (This is the largest fundraising seen in the retail space and was completed in a record, 2-month period)
The Ambanis’ business is set to scale news heights with currently, its high stakes, 390 Billion revenues and almost 195,000 employees. Wealth apparently leads to a higher standard of living and the Ambanis’ wealth is seen through their High-End Marriages that have International Artists like Beyonce and Chris Martin or the Exclusive and Expensive parties that the family throws.
Mukesh Ambani, since 2019, has been slowly changing this top-heavy hierarchy at RIL to advance governance in line with global standards.
