On Monday, the University Grants Commission has said that from now on, all the Central Universities will have to bring in the students in the Undergraduate Courses based on a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and not based on the marks of class 12. This decision will come into force from 2022-23, this upcoming academic year.
M Jagadesh Kumar, the UGC Chairperson has said that it will be compulsory for the 45 Central Universities to adopt the CUET to admit students in the undergraduate courses. But, for the admissions at the postgraduate level, the universities will have the flexibility to use CUET scores for now. He also said that this decision will give equal opportunity for the students coming from the Northeast and rural India.
The CUET for the admission in postgraduate and undergraduate courses will be held in July’s first week. It will be conducted by the National Test Agency (NTA).
