Keypoints:
- RT-PCR test can pick up dead particles of the virus and asymptomatic patients may test positive even after 10 day isolation.
- Dr. Guleria has said that the virus becomes inactive on 6th or 7th day in mild or asymptomatic Covid cases.
On Friday, AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria has said that in most of the mild or asymptomatic Covid cases, the virus becomes inactive on 6th day or 7th day. He said that at that point of time, the virus CANNOT be transmitted. However, the RT-PCR test can pick up the dead virus or the particles of the virus and a positive report can still come, even when a person has become free of Covid.
Dr. Guleria has said that, “It is scientifically proved that the virus in mild cases dies after six or seven days.”
In its new guidelines for treatment of Covid in home isolation, Centre has said that the Covid patients have to remain in isolation for 10 days. After that, if the patient has no fever for three days, the isolation period can be ended.
On Friday, the Union Health Ministry briefed about the measures to be taken to address the rising cases of the virus in the country along with shortage of oxygen. The Ministry expressed its concern over the situation and said that it is closely monitoring the situation of oxygen in the country.
Ministry has said that 85% of people will recover at home and hence, there is no need to panic about Remdesivir or oxygen.
Three approaches towards the virus were used by Union Health Ministry and it used terms like ‘corona ka rona’ to hammer home the point that many people still think corona is a scam and there is a life beyond corona. Then there are people who are thinking they will surely die because they came in contact with an infected person. They also think they need to stock Remdesivir and oxygen cylinder in case they test positive.
“Then there are people who are aware and alert. But we need the support of everyone, both the fearful and the naysayers to manage the situation as the virus has not gone into fatigue, even if we have,” health ministry joint secretary Lav Agarwal said.
