The news of the third-wave was uncertain until Saturday, June 18 when the Director of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Randeep Guleria warned the nation against it. Guleria, on Saturday said that the third wave of coronavirus disease is a threat to the country and will strike withing the next six to eight weeks.

After mentioning the possible threat, Guleria stress on the need of following the Covid-19 guidelines saying that until quite some population is vaccinated completely, individuals must strictly abide by the Covid-19 safety norms of wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

“If Covid-appropriate behaviour is not followed, the third wave can happen in six to eight weeks. We need to work aggressively to prevent another large wave till vaccination kicks in,” news agency PTI quoted the senior doctor as saying.

Talking of the preventive measures to curb the ever-increasing coronavirus outbreaks, Guleria said that a Lockdown cannot be the only way. Adding in, he advised of an aggressive surveillance strategy in Covid hotspots and lockdowns in case of any important increasing graph.

Dr. Guleria also spoke of the reopening of the lockdown in a graded manner. He said, “Mini-lockdown in any part of the country, which witnesses a surge and a rise in positivity rate beyond 5 per cent, will be required. Unless we’re vaccinated, we’re vulnerable in the coming months.” He very precisely mentioned that “testing, tracking, and treating” should be the focus in hotspots. “We have to factor in human behaviour while unlocking, which needs to be done in a graded manner,” Dr Guleria said.

An AIIMS doctor had send in photographs of street vendors in markets who were absolutely careless of the Covid protocols and the judges of the High Court took note of the same. The bench consisted of Justices Navin Chawla and Asha Menon who directed the Centre and the Delhi government to submit status reports about the situation. The third wave cannot be permitted at all, Delhi HC had stated.

“We have paid a huge price in the second wave. We don’t know if there is any household which has not suffered in the second wave, closely or remotely,” the bench had observed. Strict actions against the violators were suggested by the court and it also asked the Centre to sensitize shopkeepers and hold meetings with markets and vendors associations in this regard

Recently, the Covid-19 task force of Maharashtra warned the state citizens of the third week that is to strike in the coming 2-4 weeks.
