The Delhi University has officially announced that all the colleges affiliated with it are set to reopen from February 1. The colleges were shut since the last 10 months when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. The colleges are ONLY reopening for FINAL YEAR students of the University.
The DU colleges are only reopening for final year students as they have to appear for the final year semester exams soon and will require offline classroom sessions to complete their syllabus and prepare for the exams in a fair manner.
A letter was issued by the Delhi University that reached its respective affiliates said that the students who will be attending physical classes from today will be allowed to attend the practical and laboratory sessions in smaller batches. Public places such as washrooms, libraries, and common rooms will observe alternate entry. Students in their final year will also be allowed to visit the library and take part in other related activities, depending on the discretion of their principals, all of which will have to be in line with detailed SOPs released by the University Grants Commissions in November 2020.
Well, a college doesn’t work without teachers and now that the Final Year students have a very little time to cope up with the portion and have to also maintain the Covid-19 norms, the Delhi University has asked all its staff to be present too. It is set to reopen with 100 percent staff strength, as per the letter issued by the varsity. This decision was taken at a meeting with all the heads of departments and college principals of the university.
According to the SOPs, the lecture timings for final year students from different units have been planned in a way to avoid overcrowding and reduce contact. The colleges have also set up separate entry and exit gates to reduce contact between students.
