On Tuesday Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray assured that the existing OBC quota will remain unchanged and attempts to create a social divide by spreading speculations on the inclusion of Marathas in the category won’t be tolerated.
Thackeray said the OBC reservation will remain intact. “Today, I assert very responsibly and emphatically that we will not take away anything away from any other community while giving the Maratha community their due. I put this on record again,” he said, putting an end to the discussion of giving reservation to the Maratha community from OBCs. “The OBC quota will remain unchanged even as attempts are being made to create a social divide by spreading a speculation that Marathas will be included in the OBC category for reservations,” he added.
The legal battle for Maratha reservation is now in its final stages. We have formed an army of lawyers in the court to effectively defend the Maratha reservation. I also want reservation for the Maratha community. We have neither changed the legal team nor our stand on Maratha quota. We will win the legal battle,” said Thackeray in the lower house of the Assembly.
He said that the BJP is trying to create a perception that the quota will be slashed to accommodate Marathas and such attempts will not be tolerated.
The state government’s revision plea seeking to vacate the interim stay on the implementation of the Maratha quota is pending before the Supreme Court.
