The excise commissioner has been asked by the State Home Department to direct all the stakeholders in the industry of liquor to discontinue home delivery of liquor. The service of home delivery of liquor was started at the time of lockdown for the purpose of social distancing.

A letter to the commissioner by the home department has suggested to get back to the old practice of selling liquor, thus an indirect suggestion to stop home delivery of liquor and get back to the pre-pandemic practice of selling liquor.

To this, the excise department has indicated that it is likely to discontinue the practice of home delivery of liquor, it said “government will take a call…after considering all legal and social factors.”

The home delivery service is still in continuation by the retailers and a decision will be implemented once they seek the directives by the excise commissioner.
