8th Instalment of PM Kisan Nidhi of ₹19,000 crore transferred – PM Modi

Key Points:

  • The government transfered Rs. 2000 to the farmers account on 14th May under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
  • PM Modi, while addressing the farmers said, “This year, in comparison to the already spent part of the year, almost 10% more Wheat has been bought on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).”
  • The Government has so far, from December 2018, given 7 installments to the farmers under the PM Kisan. 

The Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) gave its 8th instalment today, May 14th  Friday. The farmers who are eligible to get the benefit have been waiting for a long time for the instalment. The government transfered Rs. 2000 to the farmers account on 14th May under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. PM Modi also interacted with farmers across the country at 11 am. 

In his address to the farmers, he extended his warm gratitude to the farmers in this difficult times and said, ,”It is the occasion of Akshay Tritiya which is a new start for the Farmers and today itself, 19 thousand crore rupees have been directly transferred to the accounts of the Farmers. This will benefit almost 10 crore farmers. It is for the first time that the farmers from Bengal have started receiving the benefit.”

How does the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi work?

  • In PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the government transfers Rs 6,000 a year to small and marginal farmers in their accounts. 
  • These financial assistance from the government to farmers comes in three instalments of Rs 2000. 
  • First instalment – Rs 2000 – from April 1 to July 31
  • Second instalment – Rs 2000 – from August 1 and November 30
  • Third instalment – Rs 2000 – from December 1 to March 31.
  • This annual financial support is given to farmers having combined land holding/ownership of up to 2 hectares.

In his 11am speech, PM Modi said, “This year, in comparison to the already spent part of the year, almost 10% more Wheat has been bought on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).” Adding in, the PM also said, “The money of the bought Wheat, which is almost 58 thousand crore rupees has been directly transferred to the accounts of the Farmer.”

“Amidst the difficult challenges of Covid-19, where farmers have produced agriculture and horticulture in records, the government is also setting new procurement records on MSP every year.

First paddy and now wheat is also being procured for record,” said the Prime Minister.

The Government has so far, from December 2018 has given 7 installments to these farmers under the PM Kisan.
