Direct payment to farmers has also been enabled on this platform. Adding to this, an additional 1,000 mandis will be connected with the digital platform by next fiscal year.

“We have taken several steps in the interest of farmers. To make mandis profitable for farmers, 1,000 more mandis will be linked to eNAM,” the PM said while inaugurating via video conference the centenary celebrations of the historic Chauri Chaura incident — a landmark event in the country’s fight for Independence.

“In the last six years, steps have been taken to make farmers self-reliant. As a result of this, the agriculture sector has grown even during the pandemic,” he said.

The Prime Minister also asserted on the need for unity and respect for the country.

“We have to pledge that the unity of the country is our priority and its respect above everything. With this feeling, we have to move forward along with each and every people of India,” PM Modi said.

A total 1.55 lakh traders have been registered on the e-NAM platform where the trade volume of 4.13 crore tonne of bulk commodities and 3.68 crore coconuts and bamboos worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore have been recorded, it said

“Looking to the success of e-NAM in its 1,000 mandis, it is now on a path of expansion,” the agriculture ministry said in a statement. In the 2021 budget, the government announced that 1,000 more mandis will be set up with e-NAM in 2021-22, further strengthening the wholesale markets.

“This intervention brings immense benefits to our farmers in augmenting their income by enabling them to realise competitive and remunerative prices in a transparent manner without incurring additional costs,” it added.
