People who rescued Sambhunath Singh (65), an Airoli resident, said he fell into the opening all of a sudden. &#8220;As I was walking along, the paver blocks started to sink in. Before I realized it, I landed in a drain,&#8221; said Singh.This is the second time in less than six months that paver blocks on this footpath have given way. Earlier, a child had fallen into a manhole after paver blocks around it caved in.<\/p>\n<p>Officer of Airoli civic ward, Mahendra Sapre, told TOI that the basic design for the footpath which had been made by Cidco, Navi Mumbai&#8217;s developlment agency, is &#8220;faulty&#8221; and that the contractor had laid paver blocks without putting down iron rods for support&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Chief publi relations officer of Cidco said that the nodal area had been handed over to Navi Mumbai civic body over a decade ago. &#8220;The onus to maintain it lies with them,&#8221; he said<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--:--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A senior citizen, who was walking along a recently renovated footpath in Airoli, suffered bruises after slipping into a crater that came up after the pavement caved in on Tuesday.
