The Congress wants Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to enter active politics because she has the potential to emerge as a mass leader, AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
However, when asked if Gandhi would campaign beyond the Nehru-Gandhi bastions of Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, Singh said \u201cthe decision would be hers and the family\u2019s\u201d.<\/p>\n
The AICC general secretary said that while Gandhi bore a \u201cstriking resemblance\u201d to her grandmother Indira, it remains to be seen if she has the same abilities.<\/p>\n
Singh said the delay in Rahul Gandhi taking over as the Congress president was not hurting the party\u2019s prospects. \u201cThis decision is to be taken by the Congress president (Sonia Gandhi), and she will do it when the time comes,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The party general secretary also refused to discuss the exit poll results of the recent assembly polls, stating that he does not trust them. \u201cThey are too hypothetical,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The exit polls conducted on Monday predicted that the Congress would lose to the Left in Kerala and the BJP in Assam. Even its unprecedented coalition with the Left in West Bengal would not succeed in trumping the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, they said.<\/p>\n
Singh refused to believe that the efforts of Nitish Kumar, Janata Dal(United) president and Bihar chief minister, to prop up a broad non-BJP front in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections would turn out to be a non-starter. \u201cNo. The Mahaghatbandhan worked in Bihar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Singh said the Congress would join the non-BJP\u2009front only if the party president and its working committee took a policy decision in this regard.<\/p>\n
