Fifteen students missed their National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) examinations on Sunday morning after being ‘late.’ <\/p>\n
The students, who were mostly outof-towners, alleged that they missed their exam at Airoli’s DAV public school after the school’s gate was closed at 9:28 am, two minutes before the cut-off time to enter the exam hall. The students also claimed that the school refused to reopen the gates despite repeated requests. <\/p>\n
The much debated first phase of the (NEET) exam was held from 10am to 1pm on Sunday across the country. Students were issued a set of rules and regulations by the CBSE which stated that they had to enter the exam hall before 9:30 am. <\/p>\n
The guidelines stated: “The examination centre will open two hours and 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the test. A candidate who comes after 9:30 am shall not be permitted into the examination centre”. <\/p>\n
“I reached the exam centre at around 9.28 am but the gate was already shut,” said a student from Pune. “We requested the security guards to open it as we still had two minutes left. They said that they had strict instructions from the authorities not to do open the gate. <\/p>\n
This is extremely unfair considering that many students from far-off places had come to Mumbai just to appear for the examination.” Students said that they also tried to call the All Indian Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) helpline, but no one answered until it was past 11am. “They said that it was too late to do anything,” said Akshata Masali, a student from Chembur. <\/p>\n
Authorities at the DAV public school insisted they did nothing wrong. “We stuck to the instructions given to us. We closed the gate at 9.30,” a school official said. <\/p>\n
MEGA BLOCK, TRAFFIC ADD TO STUDENTS’ WOES <\/p>\n
The Harbour Line’s Sunday mega block caused massive problems for students who were trying to reach on time. <\/p>\n
And according to the students, a diversion on the road leading to the centre caused a massive traffic jam and added to their woes. <\/p>\n
Tejal Raut, a student from Dahanu left from home at 3 am and reached Dadar by 8 am. However, due to the mega block on the central and the harbour line, she could not make it to the centre in time and had to miss the exam. “I had prepared for the exam the entire year. I cannot even appear in July now,” said Raut. <\/p>\n
Students who had appeared for the AIPMT this time won’t be allowed to apply phase two of the NEET which will be held in July. The NEET had sections on Physics, Chemistry and Biology and was for 720 marks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
